The Chief Arrives at Ft. Madison. After 10 am Chicago departure, the Santa Fe's Chicago to LA Chief is just crossing the Mississippi River drawbridge from IL. into Ft. Madison shortly after 1 pm. This crack Sana Fe Streamliner featured coaches, sleeping, dining and a full length dome car for passenger enjoyment and ran betweent the two cities in just over 40 hours. Like the entire great Santa Fe "Chief" fleet, this train was discontinued and is now but history.Amtrak's Southwest Chief now operates over much of the same route between the same two cities
