| The Last Wisconsin Central Christmas Card. Success was too much of a good thing for Wisconsin Central, formed from most Wisconsin trackage of the Soo Line. Ed Buckhart, who had founded the property, was already no longer with them when this painting was commissioned in 1991-showing two of the steadfast SD 45 units from their fleet in a Christmas card type setting. The following year, the WC would be adsorbed into the Canadian National and become but a fond memory of a fantastic regional railroad success story, perhaps the very best. Mr. Burkhardt has now acquired rail operations in Estonia, the former Bangor, and Aroostook and with some of his key former WC managers, many are betting the new MMA ( Montreal, Maine, Atlantic) will become another smaller WC success story. |
