| Ann Arbor car ferry Viking-a photo of the MV Viking leaving the Port of Kewanunee, WI after picking up freight cars from the GB&W and some passengers on an early winter sailing in 1979 or 1980. The Ann Arbor, for four years, received a stay of financial execution by federal subsidies administered by the State of Michigan but all Ann Arbor operations north of Howell, MI (near Detroit) and the car ferry service ended with the end of financial subsidies in April, 1982. The Viking, it is told, is now a powerless barge somewhere on the Great Lakes, stripped of its staterooms, engines, and rail trackage. |
